 Case Study: ScooterSales Portal
scootersales
Buying or selling a scooter? This is your portal

Scooter Central - one of Sydney's largest scooter specialist stores - turned to Tiptopweb to develop a high performance website aiming at becoming the one stop website in australia for pre-buyers, private sellers, dealers and anyone else who adores scooters!

Scootersales, which launched in March 2006, promises to help buyers choose a model that suits their image as well as their budget. Two Wheels Scooter Magazine is providing exclusive content with already 60 reviews over scooter tests...

The website lets buyers search by make, model and state and lists the brands each dealer carries creating instant visibility to scooter specialist dealers Australia wide.

In turn the website gives scooter specialist dealers the ability to fine tune advertising to local scooter buyers with do it yourself ads that go live instantaneously. But best of all, it allows private sellers to also advertise their used scooters to the same market.

 The solution

The ScooterSales portal is built on top of a standard DotNetNuke content management system. This content management system is very versatile and we use it as a framework for this more complex web application. The ScooterSales web application is made of more than 30 modules interfacing into the DotNetNuke framework.

The ScooterSales portal is a collection of many websites. The main website http://www.scootersales.com.au is able to generate automatically a new website when a scooter dealer is registering (an administration module is providing this functionality). The dealer website (for example http://scootercentral.scootersales.com.au for the dealer Scooter Central) is at the moment limited to the display and management of the scooter ads for the dealer. A dealer will create or update scooter ads through its dealer website and the ads will also be displayed on the main site. In a near future, more functionality will be added to the dealer website as they can have their own domain, own design and are also based on the versatile DotNetNuke content management system.

The content is presented in several sections:

  • News and reviews from TW Scooter Magazine
  • Ads for New Scooters (dealers only)
  • Ads for Used Scooters (dealers and private advertisers)
  • Dealer Directory
  • General informations

Each sections has its own content management tools (modules) :

  • News and Reviews, Directory, General Informations managed by Scooter Sales administrator
  • New and Used Scooter Ads managed directly by the dealers from their dealer website
  • Used Scooter Ads managed by private advertisers from an account they created in the main site

A payment gateway allow to collect payment from private advertisers for individual ads and from scooter dealer for membership.

All the content is generated dynamically from the database and is depending of the actions of the visitors of the website (when searching for ads and reviews). Special care has been taken regarding the seach engine optimisation (SEO) and the generation of friendly urls. Friendly urls are even used by the search modules (for ads and reviews) in such a way that result of searches can be indexed by search engines. This also allow to dynamically generate links (url) for used or new scooters ads of the same model in a page displaying a review. The links can be easily submitted to search engines or added to the sitemap.
